Bioregional Assembly_Salzkammergut develops a network of material, human, and infrastructural resources in the Salzkammergut region and demonstrates how these can be integrated in a way that could strengthen local ecological, economic, and social systems in the future.
Jakob Travnik is based in Vienna, Austria, he holds a degree in architecture from the University of Applied Arts Vienna (2016).
He was Programme Assistant and Mentor at AA nanotourism Visiting School, London, UK and an active contributor to the nanotourism platform (2014 – 2022). He worked as an Assistant Professor at the Research Unit for Architectural Typology and Design, Institute of Architectural Design at TU Vienna with a specific focus on impact-oriented research and production of architecture within the framework of nanotourism (2017 – 2022). Currently he holds an ongoing position as University Lecturer at TU Vienna
Previously, he was a participant at BIO 25 Ljubljana, Slovenia (2017), Designer in Residence as well as LINA Fellow at Atelier LUMA, a programme of LUMA Arles, France (2018 – 2020; 2023). Projects he has been a part of have been exhibited internationally, including Vienna Design Week, Austria (2018, 2020); Oslo Architecture Triennale, Norway (2019), BIO Biennial of Design Ljubljana, Slovenia (2014, 2017); LUMA Days, France (2019), Forum Future Tourism Vienna, Austria (2021), among others.
In his work he is continuously active in various roles within interdisciplinary and intersectoral networks, focusing on the implementation of alternative tourism systems and bioregional design practices in various regions. In collaboration with Atelier LUMA, a programme of LUMA Arles, he currently acts as project manager of two projects focusing on the implementation of bioregional design practices in the Salzkammergut region (Bioregional Assembly_Salzkammergut – as part of the European Capital of Culture, Bad Ischl, Salzkammergut, Austria 2024) and the city of Vienna (Biofabrique Vienna – as part of Klima Biennale and Vienna Design Week, Austria 2024).
